Le Spot
I collaborated with Art Consultant Jennifer Klos in curating a custom art experience for the collector's group LeSpot. My portion of the trip covered San Antonio, Marfa and Santa Fe.
The group began with a nice introduction to the art of Texas with a visit to the Briscoe Western Art Museum. From there we visited the Alamo, had a studio visit of artist Matt Kleberg and then a viewed a private art collection before a relaxing dinner at a private club on the Riverwalk.
The following day the group headed to Marfa, where they stopped at the quintessential West Texas town of Marathon to have a nice lunch, shop, and meet local and internationally recognized artist James Evans. Once arriving in Marfa, the group headed to Marfa Invitational where they were introduced to art curators and founders of the contemporary art site, Michael Phelan and wife Melissa Bent. Drinks and dinner followed.
The next day the group experienced Chinati, where they viewed significant works by Dan Flavin, John Chamberlain and Donald Judd. The group was encouraged to ask questions and learn about the importance of Chinati in making Marfa an epicenter for the arts. A catered lunch was provided in a contemporary and light infused space with furniture handmade by Judd. Following lunch and a coffee break at Marfa’s hip spot the Sentinel, the group visited Galerie Max Hetzler where they got to view the new exhibition by Katharina Grosse. Afterwards, the group met artist Julie Speed and were personally shown around her art at Ballroom Marfa. Following, the group had options to shop, rest or lay by the pool before a unique and specially curated dinner at Cochineal.
The road trip to Santa Fe consisted of exciting stops to Prada Marfa and the White Sand Dunes National Park. Once arriving in Santa Fe the group had a lovely dinner at the hotel. The next day began with a private tour of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum followed by a walking tour of Santa Fe, where the group got the experience to learn about the history and architecture of this astounding city. A delicious and leisurely lunch at SantaFe Cafe was next, with the options to shop, visit the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, LewAllen Galleries, and Site Santa Fe. Those interested in seeing more of the landscape of New Mexico got to visit Chimayo, a thirty-minute bus drive from the center of town, where the group got the opportunity to see a beautiful chapel and admire the setting sun behind the mountains. A fun and margarita-filled dinner concluded their Santa Fe experience.
